My other stuff
Scenic Design
I started designing scenery when I was in college. Since then, I have designed scenery for over 30 productions, including Doubt; a parable (Winner: NH Best Scenic Design) The Winters Tale (Nom: VT Best Scenic Design) The Underpants (Nom: NH Best Scenic Design) Little Shop of Horrors directed by Peggy HIcky (photo below), Broadway Bound w/ Jayne Houdyshell, and so many others...
Scenic Painting
I've been painting scenery since college and find it to be not only creative but therapeutic. When working at UH, I taught a scenic painting class and created a student painting club called "overall pride," We lived in our painter overalls and painted together every Friday. I would display their work in our main lobby.
Gardening
When we lived in NYC, I redid the gardens in front of our Co-Op. Once we moved out of the city, I redid every garden we ever owned. This butterfly weed is from my current garden in MI.
Lighting Design
Starting in college, until 2007, I designed lights for theaters in OH. NH. TN. MI, and VT. My favorite was Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill Starring Gail Neilson at The Peterborough Players in 1998. She blew the roof off.
Properties & Puppets
I've always loved doing props on shows because of the variety of skills needed. I was able to paint, upholster, build, craft, carve foam, and just do whatever it took to create what was needed. I loved that. I also dabbled in puppetry design, my favorite was creating the animals for the original production of Cindy Reilly by Gus Kaikkonen & Kraig Shwartz at the Boarshead Theatre in 1996. So fun.
Hobbies
I enjoy many activities from diving, sewing, and painting, to reading, traveling, and cooking. A particular joy was taking multiple cooking classes at the CIA when I lived in NYC. My two favorites were the tapas class and the sommelier class. And if you like Mexican Lasagna - try my award-winning recipe. (click here)
